I will say this: this is torture. And yes, other QBs can throw picks left right and center and it is just a 'bad game', but with VY it is immediately interpreted as him being an immmature, dumb, INT machine. Very tiring indeed. He needs to get a stretch of 4 games or so to work for a team whose offense he knows well/quickly. Wipe out all that perception crap. Then restart next year. Agony. Pure agony this whole sh*t

Vince gets his bonus and probably isn't in the financial situation he is in how.
Instead, Vince "quit Fisher", but forced Adams to make a decision if Vince was worth his roster bonus that year. Adams said no, cut him and the rest is history. I don't really know if this is a good assessment of the situation. Yeah, Bud had a thing for Vince. Mainly to stick it to Houston. But you're right, he did like Vince a lot. However, Bud wasn't just deciding between Fishface and Vince.
If you kept up with the situation in Tennessee like I did from the moment Vince got drafted by them, you learned some of the sordid history of the Titans. Reese was the GM there and he and Fisher had it out for each other. Hated each others $#@!ing guts. Fishface wanted full control of draft decisions a la Jerry Jones and, obviously, Reese thought Fishface was kind of an idiot and (as GM) wanted to be able to guide the draft himself. Vince was Reese and Bud's hire. Fisher wanted absolutely nothing to do with Vince. Obviously he played it differently to the media, but as our good friend Hoge leaked over the radio, Fisher was steamed he didn't get to make the QB pick.
Still, that's all common knowledge. USC alum gets pissy that he doesn't get to pick Matty Whiner and he and the Texas QB have problems their entire time in Tennessee. However, what people didn't hear about that much (unless you were really keeping up with the Titans message boards during that time or were in Nashville) was how Fisher completely won the control battle. Reese got booted out on his ass. Bud caved to Fisher and basically ceded control of the draft over to him. The Titans hire on the disastrous "Fishface college buddy Norm Chow as OC" shortly thereafter. Mike Reinfeldt becomes the new GM and from all accounts was Fisher's bitch. Want to know why Tennessee never drafted a receiver worth a $#@! those first few years Vince was in the league? Why they drafted defensive pick after defensive pick and made such stellar selections as Chris Henry in the 2nd round? Well, it was because Fisher was running the show in everything but name.
So, Fisher basically has control of that entire organization. The only time things don't go exactly his way is when Bud Adams gets lucid and stops throwing double-barreled birds in the stands to tell Fisher to start Vince over Kerry the Drunk. Now, when all this Vince v. Fisher mess is going down after the Redskins game, who is shaping the narrative? Vince or Fishface? When Bud is trying to decide who to hold on to what is everyone in the organization whispering in his ear? All the people who are Fisher supporters one and all and who know that Fisher has huge pull in the NFL.....
That's why Vince doesn't have a job right now. The NFL is an old boys club and Fisher is a chairman of the board. Despite his awful coaching credentials he's often referred to as the "Dean of NFL coaches." He's on several NFL committees. The dude is connected. My guess is Bud's hands were tied. He wanted Fisher gone, but he knew he was going to have to hold on to SOME of the people in his organization. Hell, Munchak became the next head coach after all. All people who were going to support Fisher anyway because they'd have a lot to lose by crossing the guy. Maybe not immediately in TN, but coaches and other NFL guys get shuffled around a lot. No reason to go burning bridges over Vince Young.
I'm not suggesting Vince would have a SB ring on every finger at this point if he'd been drafted somewhere else, but he'd damn sure still be a starter in the league.

Thanks for today's posts, it was a good astute analysis of Vince's getting fucked by Fisher.
So............... What happened to Cuffs blog/website Tracking Vince Young? Does he not plan to post anything else I guess? I any case, I enjoy coming to this board for a lil camaraderie.

I have to say that Cam Newton is very much the opposite of VY though: he throws no INTs at all, as we could see today. He has also been rushing up a storm and mastering super sophisticated game plans.
But then again, he had a dad who sold him to the highest bidder in college football and got away with it. Because that is what football is becoming: a total sham. It is slipping from a sport to a business. And that means if you have money and know what this really is about, you can buy yourself any perception you want in the media.
Vince was the opposite in one way: extremely amateurish in how he approached the business side of life in the NFL. I mean, having a criminal defense attorney and an uncle who is a teacher be involved in managing your money is just dumb. I think he is a guy who really missed a father figure and always gravitated towards people who gave him the impression they wanted to be that father figure.
And with Mack Brown and Steve McNair he had true father figures. We all know that FieldGoal Fish never even pretended to like Vince. Adams tried to be a protector, but was played over and over again by those between him and VY.
OK. I am going to stop typing. Or else I am going to get so depressed it ain't funny anymore. Vince is very old school in terms of trusting people and thinking that the people who run teams are all about the sport. If he had been out there 5-7 years ago, maybe that was still true. But under Goodell this is becoming more and more of a branding machine that is less and less about sport. Which leaves Vince stuck in a no man's land: excellent QB who will only get out of the hole if someone who knows the business goes out on a limb and helps him. Otherwise,... Let's not think about 'otherwise' because that scenario is revoltingly depressing
