Found this great post AlabamaWCH I think the PLAYBOOK needs fixing. And believe the RECORD supports my position. Originally Posted by BILLSFANFORLIFE Gailey just needs time to fix VY. Vince will be superman again!
BALANCE is the main ingredient to being successful. The team has to have the capability to RUN just as it can THROW and CATCH and do either just as effectively at ANY time during the game to keep the defense off balance, if necessary. Sometimes when teams become very good teams, those teams don't have to worry about what you think, when they know you can't stop them, even if you know the play that is going to be run, so they keep doing what they are doing to you. But for the most part, that is not the case in the NFL. The defense has to WONDER whether your offense is going to run or pass, which buys the offense in many cases a full second that the defense has to slow down to be sure what the offense is doing. It is a failed playbook that does not incorporate that simple fact of playing WINNING football, “balance”. Teams trying to implement pure passing just shows how great some coaches are, who are able to win and get the other coaches to attempt to emulate that coach, yet the great coaches can always defeat the would be emulators. Why? Because once other coaches start to COPY what they see being done, the great coaches simply CHANGE from what they were doing (you copy passing, they start running and vise versa since his team will be better COACHED than those who attempt to copy him.) Green Bay and New England both relied on great passers last year. But, New York won by having a hard nosed RUNNING game, by having defensive linemen who put great FEAR in quarterbacks once they hit the quarterback and had a decent passer of their own, where receivers were MOTIVATED to make great plays at GREAT MOMENTS in time. It is a simple recipe for success. And that says a lot about New York's great coach in how well he PREPARED his team. Anyway, it's not about a playbook and if Buffalo is NOT going to allow Vince Young to compete to try to help change Buffalo's fortunes or rather misfortunes over the last 17 years, then they ought to go ahead and cut Vince Young and use the quarterbacks that they have or pick up one that gets cut off of another team, like Colt McCoy will be coming up. And it is true, sometimes it is better to be LUCKY (be in the right place at the right time) than be good. Vince Young was UNLUCKY when he went to Tennessee. And it appears that he is unlucky the same in Buffalo, where he is LOCKED OUT as the starter, even when the record is 10 wins and 22 losses over the last two years. It's good for Fitzpatrick and is just unfortunate for Vince Young.

Look, VY will win the job. The only chance Thigpen has is if Vince struggles badly in the next 3 preaseason games, but it's very hard to happen, since he's improving. Gailey always loved mobile QBs and said those QBs like VY are the future of this league. Sure, he likes Fitz, but in the moment he feels Fitz cant get the job done he will change to VY. For now he's only watching how VY learn and adapts to this offense. But it's obvious he will change a lot of things to help VY when he gets time with first team. VY only needs to keep working and earning the trust of his coaches and teamates. I belive VY will have his shot this year, because Fitz can't lead this team to the playoffs. I belive VY will lead the turnaround and in the end of the year he will have a multiyear deal by the Bills as a starting QB.

Incomplete passes and drops are few and far between in 7 on 7, as both Tyler Thigpen and Vince Young work with the starting WRs.

By Mark Gaughan PITTSFORD -- Vince Young looked sharp with his passes throughout Monday's practice at St. John Fisher College. "I think today was his best day since he’s been here," said Bills coach Chan Gailey. "We’re trying to do everything with him, we’re not holding anything back. ... He's got a better grasp of it than he did at any time during OTas or minicamp, and I think he’s feeling a lot more comfortable." Young was good in red-zone work, which took up much of the 11-on-11 sessions of practice. He hit David Clowney with a quick pass for a TD on a second-and-goal play from the 7. Ron Brooks was in coverage. Young hit a deep cross to Ruvell Martin for a 30-yard gain, then connected with T.J. Graham on a sharp slant pattern for 15 yards. Then he threw an on-rhythm strike over the middle to Martin for a 10-yard TD.

Glad to hear Coach giving VY some praises I said to you, he's not like Fisher. I just think he will not give nothing easily to VY. He will need to earn all his opportunities. I'm fine with that. VY will grown with that.

Vince Young led the second unit on the first series against the second team defense. The situation was 1:20 on the clock with the ball at their own 30 and needing a touchdown to win. On first down Young hit Ruvell Martin on a deep crossing route along the left sideline for a 25-yard pickup to move in the defense’s territory.
After a short completion to David Clowney and an incompletion it was third down, but Young hit T.J. Graham on a slant with 29 seconds remaining. On fourth down, Young hit Naaman Roosevelt for a first down prompting a spike after getting lined up again at the new line of scrimmage.
With 22 seconds left on the clock Young fired a pass over the middle to Martin on a post pattern for a 25-yard touchdown with 17 seconds left to complete the drive.
Head coach Chan Gailey liked what he got from Young in the passing game Monday.
“That’s the best he’s done since he’s been here,” said Gailey. “I think today was his best day since he’s been here. He’s got a better grasp of it at any time in the OTAs or minicamp and I think he’s feeling a lot more comfortable.”

- Practice MVP: QB Vince Young. It's been 13 long and grueling days waiting for one of Young and Tyler Thigpen to step up and take the reigns as MVP of a practice, and the former won that battle. Young was poised and accurate in the team's two-minute drill that started on their own 30-yard line. Young didn't panic and found his receivers time after time, culminating with a touchdown pass. Young has been labeled the favorite by many to win the backup job, and he certainly went a long way to earn the role with his performance Monday. With a chance to play a lot of minutes as the second-team quarterback on Friday against Minnesota, Young can really put a stranglehold on the job with a solid performance. Thigpen also had a better practice, but still missed on some throws that should have been on target during 7-on-7's.

day 15, last training camp practice: By Chris Brown
Vince Young and Tyler Thigpen continue to rotate as the second quarterback. For the second straight day both took all the team reps in 7-on-7 with Ryan Fitzpatrick getting a break on his number of throws in practice.
Both have improved as camp has worn on making it tough on Chan Gailey and his staff with respect to the competition.
“They’ve made it tough the whole time,” said Gailey of Thigpen and Young. “Vince was really behind the eight ball early, but he’s come on strong. It’s going to be a tough decision for us.”
To provide a glimpse of how close take a look at their statistics for Tuesday’s red zone work. Thigpen was 7-11 passing with a pair of touchdowns and one play where he ate the ball. Young was also 7-11 passing with a pair of touchdowns, an interception and one play where he ate the ball.

Fernando, I remember you asking the question whether VY was blackballed in the NFL. I just looked through a whole slew of articles on the AFC East blog at ESPN and found it remarkable that on the day that there are many articles about Vince doing so well in camp, this joker selects a story about a guy working his way back from a knee injuriy as the Bills story fo the day. I will say that I have lost all respect for that ESPN AFC East blogger and Chris Brown. They cannot lose their integrity, because they never had any.
Glad that the fans are coming around. Now I hope that Gailey is not stupid and that he keeps VY and cuts Thigpen. If Vince just gets the chance to show what he can do, he will be better than fine. Crossing fingers, toes, and anything else that may help...

He never known what to talk about the Bills. The guy who is good is Tim Graham. He was on afc east blog in espn and now is with buffalonews. He is very fair with his thoughts. Said in the beginning of the camp VY was mediocre at the best during his first practices, but now he's giving props to VY improved performances. Chan is being though on Vince, since the question about Vince will be if he matured and how mentally though he is at this point in his career. But i'm sure he knowns if Fitz can't be the guy he was in the first 6 games last year, VY has the potential to takeover and be a franchise QB.

by a friend from buffalorumblings who watched some practices:
Vince Young has had some very strong practices in a row now, and tonight was yet another. He hops a bit on his toes before getting his feet set, but he is now throwing off his back foot pretty consistently, and the result is greatly improved accuracy, at least in the practice setting. I had the chance to see him on a bad night a few weeks ago when there were wild throws all over the place. Tonight there was only one, and that was a deep ball to the back of the end zone that he may have intentionally overthrown. He is definitely NOT the equal of Fitz, who was making solid throws consistently all night. Fitz is clearly more decisive and has a quicker release than Young (Fitz also seemed to be doing a good job of setting his feet when I looked through my binocs). But if Young can maintain the level at which he is currently playing, especially during the preseason games, we will not have to worry about having a capable back-up.
Thigpen by contrast was very wild at times, with David Lee rushing to him in obvious alarm. Unless Young regresses (which is perfectly possible), the contest may be over. Brad Smith, for his part, kept throwing into open space during his snaps at QB. I'm not so sure about having him as the No. 3.
As for the WR's, if a visitor arrived from Mars tonight and watched what was happening on the field, he would surely have concluded that Marcus Easley was winning the competition for the last WR slot hands down. Easley had the highlight of the night with a gorgeous catch on a 40 yard pass from VY that he wrestled away from Gilmore, who had him tightly covered. That was followed a few plays later by another work of art catch deep down the sideline near the endzone and then a perfect reception for a TD in which VY threaded the ball perfectly between two receivers.

another observation by macktruck from buffalorumblings:
... But most striking, Vince Young was hanging out with no one. After seeing him by himself during a special teams segment I started keeping track, and every time I checked he was alone. It might be interesting to see what happens during the game Friday at the Metrodome. He is going to be the main QB. Will he keep to himself when he is not on the field? He also has some of the thinnest legs I have ever seen on a football player. A real sprinter.

by Joe Buscaglia of wgrz:
- Vince Young shook off a slow start to the practice to have another solid outing for the Buffalo Bills. He shined especially in the 7-on-7 red zone drill. He found targets Marcus Easley, Fendi Onobun, Ruvell Martin and more to put the ball in the end zone. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is his job to lose. He just has to go out and prove it. That starts in Minnesota against the Vikings on Friday night.

"But most striking, Vince Young was hanging out with no one."
Yes, I have seen him during several games and that seems to be his thing. He is studying the plays and maybe listening to the coach, but he is 'in the zone' and not hanging out or kicking it loose with anyone during games.
I have never seen a practice. So, I don't know how he is in practice.
