Article about VY and Thigpen after the 1 practice of the second week of training camps:
Young has a strong arm and throws a nice ball. But developing the precision an NFL quarterback needs in a quick-passing offense is not easy. How is his rhythm coming along?
"He's getting closer," Lee said. "We're not there yet, we're getting closer."
The 6-foot-5, 232-pound Young already has shown his great athleticism. He had a nifty evasion of a collapsing pocket on Saturday and burst up the middle of the field for a big gainer. He had two good runs Sunday when the defenders had their backs turned, evoking memories of a wild, 36-yard TD run he had in leading Tennessee to a 30-29 win over the Bills in 2006

Tuesday practice is on the books, and it looked like a so so day for VY. He made a beautiful long thrown to Derek Hagan on a 55 yard TD play on 11 on 11, but all the reports said they don't see much difference between VY and Thigpen today. We need to remember some hate are involved in those opinions. Coach Gailey don't talked much good things about VY, but QB coach Lee sounds like he's happy with Young's development. See the queotes in the comment above. Link to the article below: www.buffalonews.com/sports/bills-nfl/article977585.ece

Last news about VY in yesterday practice: "Young and Thigpen started off participating in 2-on-1′s, while Fitzpatrick and Smith worked with special teams. Young was pretty inconsistent in his performance, completing big passes to Marcus Easley and TJ Graham. Easley is quickly becoming my pick to land the number two receiver. He just looks great. Young’s biggest problem right now is under throwing his receivers, either in terms of literally under throwing them, or hitting guys in the knees."
Today's practice will start soon.

Not good news about VY in day 6. The most of the reports said nothing about him, and the one who talked about him not said good things. His accuracy was a big problem. If Thigpen had one day better than VY, this day was yesterday. VY had a bad deep thrown intercepted. underthrown. I'm starting to lost my patience with VY. He's becoming frustratinng to me. The guy is cleary the best QB out there, but can't show that on the field. I could expect Fitz overplaying him right now, because Gailey was doing this offens for him for 3 years now, but i can't accept VY having difficult to separate himself from Thigpen. VY needs to remember who he was and start to impose himself, or he will be a big frustration for all of us. My hope is that i watched it before, with Jim Wyatt and another writers saying how better Kerry Collins looked in comparison to VY in practice, and how VY could not separate himself from Ramsey or Simms in Titans practices, and we known how it turned out. When the preseason comes i hope VY can play better than he's practicing, and take this weird feeling i'm having right now. Day 7 starts this afternoon. VY expected back with the 2s.

Buffalo Bills@buffalobills
Vince Young recovers a low shotgun snap and delivers a laser over the teeth of the defense. Not a play many QBs can make. #BillsCamp

Day 7 Thigpen had the seconde team snaps too. That was his 3rd day in a row leding the 2s. It looks like Gailey will give him the reps and the opportunity with the 2s in the first preseason game and turn to VY in the next week. That's my hope. Tgigpen had another day better than VY by reports, it's awfull. He needs to step up and have a great preseason game to gain confidence for his opportunity in the next game. Some reports below: - On to the aforementioned Thigpen. He had, for my money, his best practice yet in the 2012 training camp. He started off strongly in 7-on-7's, making the proper read and delivering a strike to the intended receiver, and he connected on a pair of deep passes perfectly. His first set of team reps weren't exactly awe-inspiring, but on his next set Thigpen came back and delivered a string of solid passes to the likes of Naaman Roosevelt and others on the second unit. He definitely needed a day like that to get him back in to the swing of things. "- On the other hand, Vince Young continues to struggle throwing the ball. One play was particularly head-scratching. Young zeroed in on his receiver that was covered perfectly by the cornerback, drawing safety Delano Howell over to the area as well. Young pump-faked, and instead of going elsewhere (or even tucking it and running), he cocked his arm back and let 'er rip to that very same receiver. It hung in the air, and Howell was a good pair of hands away from picking it off. The times Young has looked his most comfortable? When he's not inside his head. You see his poise when he tucks it and runs, but one play stood out in terms of shutting his mind off. Young was in shotgun, and the snap was delivered low. The quarterback kept his cool, picked up the ball, and delivered his best pass of the day 15 yards down the field to a receiver on a crossing route. You want your quarterback to analyze things, but you don't want him to be swimming in possibilities in his mind to the point where it cripples his natural abilities. There's still time yet for him, though." wgr550.com/pages/9034669.php?pid=256699

How do you step when you not playing with the best personel? Thigpen is getting 2nd teams snaps how is this to play out This is from a poster: Young has struggled more with his short and intermediate game. It could be a product of not knowing your WR's very well in my opinion which should improve as time goes on. There is no time on a short pass for WR's to adjust to the football or for the QB to gauge and time his throw properly. Getting the proper timing down comes from practicing the same patterns with the same WR's until both QB and WR are on the same page. Each knowing the others tendencies. It doesn't happen overnight...

Day 8
VY is doing fine per twitter reports. I could see comments about 3 VY TD passes.

Chan Gailey and David Lee both wanted to work with Vince. Now he's showing them that he's a hard worker and a dedicated player.

Yeah, i still think they want 2 things. 1. VY work hard to earn the job. 2. Give a more than fair shot to Thidpen, he looks like a good guy, a dedicated one, and Chan will give him a opportunity to beat VY. Everybody knowns he can't do that and all of us will see that in the preseason

2 minute drill The situation the offense was facing on Friday was 1st-and-10 at the opponent’s 30-yard line with 40 seconds on the clock, no timeouts and they needed a touchdown to win.
The second team offense got first crack at it. Vince Young took off on first down tucked it and ran after finding no one open and ran for 15 yards and got out of bounds to stop the clock with a fresh set of downs.
After hitting David Clowney on a quick slant for minimal yardage, he hit Naaman Roosevelt in the back corner of the end zone, but the pass carried the receiver out of bounds. On third down Young’s pass was broken up by Nick Saenz in the right flat and Saenz broke up the fourth down attempt to the end zone to end the series.
Well. VY was the only one to led the second team offense on 2 minute drill, so, it's not like thigpen is having all the second team reps in the last few days like i was thinking.

by Joe Buscaglia of wgr 550 sports radio:
"- During the day of one of his second-team rep practices, Vince Young had his strongest outing yet. He was hitting receivers in stride and making the right reads at a higher rate than he has been. While I wouldn't consider it to be a spectacular practice, Young is certainly moving in the right direction, much like Thigpen did on Thursday."

i have not kept track of the depth charts that they update - since it is training camp - but i saw in today's updated chart that Thigpen is ranked as QB2 and VY as QB3.
I sure hope Gailey is just trying to motivate VY. If he really let's Thigpen win the job, because he really wanted to prove to his GM or owner that he believes Thigpen is good (i.e. creating a fake competition), then I will be super pissed. It will put a stain on VY's reputation that he cannot beat out a third rate QB like Thigpen.
I sure hope that VY gets a fair chance and gets to show what he can do, for he is better than their QB1. But yes, when someone has been in the system for years, it takes more than a handful of practices to outperform them.

I am hoping that VY will get backup QB with Buffalo but he may not get it . Not because it can't do the job hell he could be their starting QB. But the fact is the coach has another QB he pushing. I just hope there a team that will take VY.

VY will beat out Thigpen in preseason. Fitz and Thigpen have been in this offense for a few years now, thats the only advantage they have over VY.

calm down, calm down... VY will win this job. Like i said before, they only want VY to earn that, on and off the field. Thigpen is the incumbent, and is Chan's guy, but even him knowns Thigpen can't look better than VY in game situations. Fitz is looking good because this offense was build especially for his strenghts. Imagine VY in that situation! I belive soon we will see that, he only needs to impose himself in preseason. He will have a opportunity.

Day 9
First reports are VY and Thigpen were fairly even today, and improved from last week. Today was Thigpen day with the 2s. By Chris Brown from buffalobills.com:
#2 QB update Saturday was Tyler Thigpen’s turn as the number two quarterback with Vince Young rotating through for a series or two. Both signal callers have fared a bit better in the second week of camp. Thigpen appears more confident pushing the ball down the field, while Young is relying on more underneath throws.
