finally a coach who supports him. i hope he will just make the 53 man roster if he doesn't try too hard and f**ks up. it seems as if this is the first time he has a coach who believes in him and who really wants him to succeed. fingers, toes, tongs, everything crossed to hope for success ;-)

today training 8/14 @mikevandermause: Vince Young tosses 3 passes in row on the run into target netting, drawing cheers from crowd. @mikevandermause 1h Rodgers and Vince Young having discussion, look to be talking about footwork on drop backs.
@weshod 25m Myles White gets behind defenders and Young finds him perfectly
@tomsilverstein 24m Vince young with quick throw down the seam to Myles White. Nice timing.
@tydunne 20m A rare throw to the second level by Vince Young. Finds Myles White wide open up the seam.
@mikevandermause 22m Graham Harrell won't give up his No 2 QB job to Vince Young without a fight. Beautiful deep pass to Alex Gillett impressive.
@tydunne 19m Low throw by Coleman picked by Sam Shields. Next play, misses Jarrett Boykin deep. Nixon with decent make-up speed to get there.
@mikevandermause 16m Coleman overthrows Boykin deep.
@tydunne 14m Blitz period underway. Young to Hines on a slant. Jarrett Bush there for a deflection but Hines handles it, turns upfield.
@tomsilverstein 14m Jarrett Boykin very nice catch on ball thrown behind him from Coleman.
@tydunne 13m Burnett covering Boykin up the seam. Close coverage, Coleman's throw hits the safety in the back.
@mikevandermause 11m It's only scout team but Coleman not in sync with receivers. 2 errant passes in row.
@tomsilverstein 8m Vince Young gets a snap with the 1s and hesitates then throws completion to Boykin on a comeback.
@mikevandermause 6m Vince Young connects with Boykin in tight coverage.
Mike Vandermause @mikevandermause 6m Coleman heating up. Nice pass to Myles White. Practice is over. Very good day for Vince.
@tydunne 14m Packers trying to get Young comfortable. A lot play action, rollouts, stuff on the move.
@weshod 17m #Packers keeping Young in his comfort zone, rolling off play action. Check to Williams thete
@tydunne 7m One of Vince Young's better passes. Nice touch pass to Matt Mulligan in corner of end zone. TE got a step on Terrell Manning.
@weshod 9m Nice pass from Young on goal line touchdown pass to Mulligan. Kept his throwing motion higher it seemed
@tydunne 6m Soon after, Coleman throws a pass into the dirt.
@tydunne 6m Two more Coleman misses in the end zone. MM on Young: He is clearly different today than last week. He is progressing. Spending time with him. Hopefully more reps (Sat) than Arz.
MM: Vince Young is different today than he was a week ago. Hopefully, give him some more reps than he had vs. Arizona.
MM: Vince Young is clearly different today than he was last week. He's progressing, spending extra time with him, it's been beneficial

•Micah Hyde intercepted a Vince Young pass that was bobbled by WR Justin Wilson (RD). •Johnny Jolly recorded two more tipped passes during practice on Monday, after two during Saturday's game against the Rams (WH). •Graham Harrell recorded four straight completions during team drills, and then almost threw an interception straight to Jarrett Bush but Bush dropped the sure INT (TD). •Coach McCarthy ended practice early before the usual two-minute drill. well, the next 2 weeks are 'go time' for Vince. if he can keep improving week after week and avoid big F**k ups (i.e. INTs, missed TDs, etc.), then he should be a lock. I think the other QBs can have a good moment here or there, but hold no promise of great things ever happening during the regular season. If Vince comes in and shows that he was quickly able to go from novice to comfortable in the system to being able to add his own unique flavor/flashes in a matter of 4 weeks, then he should be a lock.
difficult balance to maintain: show some flashes of brilliance, but don't take too much risk to look good. but i will say that - just looking at the missed passes - it seems like he is going back to playing how he played in 2009-2010: if the WR whiffs, the ball will just fall dead and cannot be intercepted. that minimizes risk and keeps the chains moving most of the time.
let's see what he can put in the books against the Hawks. I like Vince in Packer uniform. Keep it that way, Vince!

Coach Mike McCarthy was pretty adamant in his post-practice news conference Monday that jobs are still on the line all over the place. But sometimes you have to read between the lines and trust what you see. Like at quarterback. On the first day back from the victory over St. Louis on Saturday night, Graham Harrell got just about every rep with the No. 2 offense. Vince Young got a couple of snaps and B.J. Coleman continued to run the scout team. Harrell might not have had the numbers to prove it, but he did improve against the Rams. Had tight end D.J. Williams and wide receiver Tyrone Walker not dropped passes and running back Johnathan Franklin done a better job setting up for a screen, Harrell would have thrown for well over 100 yards and might have led the team to a touchdown. He finished 5 of 10 for 44 yards. In practice, he was sharp, hitting Williams and Walker for big gains. Maybe it's that Young and Coleman haven't done enough to unseat Harrell and he's going to win the job by default. That's not an unreasonable assumption. But in the face of a lousy scrimmage and pretty bad exhibition opener, Harrell has at least picked up his game some. He looked much more relaxed and willing to let it rip Saturday night. If Young were tearing it up, Harrell wouldn't have been running the 2s all day Monday. It's his job if he wants it. But he did not but not write about the INT he threw.

one thing that I do notice is that a lot of local reporters always seem to root against vince. they tend to over-report his mistakes and under-report the mistakes of others who compete with him.
i sure hope that this picture is not true or that mccarthy is alternating every day who gets to take most snaps to see which QB he wants to go with. he has barely had time to get adjusted to their system and WRs.

@weshod 16m Young hits Bostick in corner end zone on nice pass/catch
@tydunne 13m Into red zone now. Young still getting reps behind Harrell. Hits Bostick for a touchdown on nice touch pass to corner of end zone.
@tomsilverstein 10m Harrell play action throws about five feet over Jones' head.
@tydunne 8m Harrell and Young alternating now at QB.
@tydunne 8m Harrell throws into heavy traffic and it's picked off by Terrell Manning (on scout D).
@tomsilverstein 7m Coleman great throw to DJ Williams in the corner of the end zone. Then hits Taylor over the middle for TD.
@tomsilverstein 3m Harrell deep to Boykin overthrown.
@tomsilverstein 2m Harrell badly overthrows Walker who had two steps on Hyde.
@tomsilverstein 1m Harrell slant to Jones way behind.
@robdemovsky 41s Harrell has twice overthrown receivers who were open deep in this no-huddle period.

was getting worried. but this sounds somewhat positive at least: The allocation of snaps in practice suggested that Harrell might play a little more than Young this week, though the Packers are hoping Young has learned enough of the offense to play more naturally than he did in the first two games. “I just want to see him play,” McCarthy said. “He needs to throw the ball a little better than he did last week (at St. Louis), but I think it was obvious from Week 1 to week 2 that he was more comfortable getting in and out of the huddle and is a little more composed where he can go out and play. “I’m just trying to think through the game, he still moves very well, but no, the timing is not exactly where you’d expect because he hasn’t had a lot of time and reps with the perimeter group. But we’ve made a lot of progress.” www.packersnews.com/article/20130820/PKR0101/130820039?nclick_check=1let's see if VY can step it up and erase the bad game against SEA from his time at the Eagles...

well, let's hope that this coach thinks more like the fans than chan gailey did. vey different situations /coaches of course.
i think if Vince keeps getting better, shows 1-2 flashes of what he can become if given time, and does not throw INTs/commit turnovers, he will still win the battle. but it still no certainty. i so hope that he becomes a packer for this entire season. and has an opportunity to win a few games for them....

Vince Young more than legs, he’s experience John from Saint Paul, MN
How has Vince Young looked in practice recently? Is he showing anything that would make us believe he still has a little bit of “Texas Vince” left?
He can still run, and it’s that element in his game that continues to make him attractive as a backup quarterback because you know you have a guy that, when all else fails, can pull it down, take off and get you a first down. I like what he offers the Packers as a backup quarterback, which is to say a guy that has won 31 games as a starting quarterback. He’s been in the playoffs. He’s won big games. The one thing we know about Young is that the game is not too big for him, and that’s something you can never know about a quarterback until he plays in a crunch-time situation. What did we know about Matt Flynn before that game in New England? Hey, it’s not as though I’m jumping on the bandwagon. I wrote it before the Packers signed him. I think this team needs a veteran backup quarterback. I see no reason this team can’t keep three quarterbacks on its 53-man roster. We’re talking about a very valuable position. If you lose “The Man” for a game or two, you’ll need that third guy to become the second guy. Is the 53rd man on the roster really that important? You can’t find that guy on your practice squad when you need him?

♦ (Quarterback) Vince Young has been putting in a lot of extra time with (quarterbacks coach) Ben McAdoo. He’s getting more and more comfortable this next week. Look for Vince to get some opportunities (on Friday night).
Well, that is all he can ask for: opportunities. Now convert them Vince!!!!

My hope is obviously Vince plays well on friday in the limited time he will get because of the starters playing longer. I truly believe(assuming me makes the roster) that the packers are grooming him to win games for them in the next two or three years if needed. No matter what i'm proud he stayed ready and has showed he is smart enough to jump into a fairly complex offense and not be overwhelmed.

see below. my thoughts: ok. just don't screw it up vince! you are THIS close to being a Packer for the season. Don't fail at this stage. You can learn sooooooo much from being around someone like Aaron Rodgers and the Packers organization. Push it over the finish line with a few great throws, some good mobility actions, and for the rest no turnovers. Magic mix.
Here goes:
Quarterbacks (2): Aaron Rodgers, Vince Young
Analysis: Keeping three quarterbacks is unlikely, so the Packers have to decide between Young and Graham Harrell. There’s a growing sense within the organization that they need a better backup than Harrell. Young might not have a firm grasp of the offense for several more weeks or even months, but it’s a risk they may be willing to take.
