I really do hate to be a pessimist, but I believe the writing is on the wall. With Harrell starting the 3rd quarter, the coaches have decided to make him the backup.
Fuck

i will say that it is highly confusing sometimes: mccarthy says all the right words to the press, but then on the field vince seems to not get the opportunities. and why bother with coleman? the guy is a waste of space
puzzled about what is going on
on game center it looked like vince fumbled and recovered on his 2nd series. what happened? i had no live feed

Not looking good to me all this bullshit. If they wanted VY to be the backup, why not give him more reps today? Especially since he was doing so good. It's looking like Harrel is their Thigpen. VY is so unlucky. Oh boy, a lot of awful QBs in the league, just look at Brady Quinn! How Pete Carrol, who always was able to see what VY can do, never gave a shot to Vince?

Well Joan, concerning what Mccarthy has said- I've learned quickly from Fisher, that coaches are like politicians- they will lie, lie, lie if it suits them.

At least what he's doing is impressive. He's showing he can learn a system pretty quickly, and most important, he can move the chains with a simple offense. Maybe it impress someone who need a backup. I just fear no one give him another shot.

Watching that exciting TD drive by Vince (the only TD by the packers this game), while very fun to watch, makes the pain of him not being a starter RIGHT NOW all the more painful.
So painful.

aaron, my computer has been acting up and the url that you gave kept stalling. so i didn't see it all. but this sounds like some reporters are at least getting a little bit more positive towards Vince. let's see if it is enough: espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorthObservation deck: Seahawks 17, Packers 10 August, 23, 2013 AUG 23 11:23 PM ET By Rob Demovsky | ESPN.com RECOMMEND0TWEET0COMMENTS0EMAILPRINT GREEN BAY, Wis. – Vince Young took a major step toward winning the Green Bay Packers' backup quarterback job Friday in the Packers' 17-10 preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The former first-round draft pick outplayed Graham Harrell, who couldn’t produce any points in five series (including four with the starting offensive line). Young, who replaced Harrell in the third quarter, led an 11-play, 80-yard touchdown drive on his first possession. Although Young nearly threw an interception on his third play, the 30-year-old showed that if nothing else, he can still make plays with his feet. He scrambled for 21 and 18 yards on the touchdown drive. He also showed he can be effective running play-action bootlegs. He hit tight end Andrew Quarless for 16 yards on one such play that helped set up Young’s 1-yard touchdown pass to fullback Jonathan Amosa. Young’s second -- and final -- series was a three-and-out that was ruined by a shotgun snap that sailed over his head. He finished 6-of-7 passing for 41 yards. With one touchdown pass and no interceptions, his rating was 130.7. He rushed three times for 39 yards. Harrell relieved starter Aaron Rodgers, who got only one series, and played the entire second quarter behind the starting offensive line, plus another series in the third quarter with the No. 2 offensive line. Harrell’s four series with the top offensive line ended with a punt, a fumble by receiver Jarrett Boykin, a turnover on downs after Jermichael Finley dropped a potential touchdown pass on fourth-and-goal at the 2 and another punt. The ball Finley dropped was not a good throw. Harrell, who was 6-for-13 passing for 49 yards with a 52.4 rating, also overthrew several open receivers. His biggest gain was a 25-yard pass-interference penalty on Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman.

blog.packers.com/2013/08/23/vince-young-stars-in-third-quarter-td-drive/ Vince Young stars in third-quarter TD drive Posted by Vic Ketchman, packers.com editor on August 23, 2013 – 9:25 pm GREEN BAY–Vince Young sparked a listless Packers offense by leading it to a game-tying touchdown late in the third quarter of a preseason game that was tied, 10-10, after three quarters. Young immediately scrambled for 21 yards, which triggered a Packers touchdown drive that covered 80 yards in 11 plays and culminated in a Young touchdown pass to Jonathan Amosa. Young completed four of five passes for 25 yards, and ran twice for 39 yards in the drive, which may have moved him into the lead for the backup quarterback job.

By SoTxJoe on Aug 23, 2013 | Reply Good job, Vince. Keep it up. i hope McCarthy sees it the same way i do.
By Matt on Aug 23, 2013 | Reply Starting D looked OK but I sure hope the O-line can open some lanes when the real games begin.
By maxcu2 on Aug 23, 2013 | Reply I hope Green Bay realizes Vince is still a playmaker.
By Al Katraz on Aug 23, 2013 | Reply I think he earned a spot behind Rogers. Harrel has nothing and BJ is an idiot. He couldn’t lead a parade over a cliff.

this guy wrote a really negative article about vince just a few days ago (one of these 'he sure must be too stupid to learn our complex offense' articles): gnb.scout.com/2/1318982.htmlThe Packers’ goal, however, wasn’t winning the game as much as it was finding a backup quarterback and rounding out its roster. After five brutal possessions by Graham Harrell, Vince Young gave the Packers a spark and potentially has moved ahead in the battle to be Rodgers’ top backup. After Seattle took a 10-3 lead on its first drive of the second half, with Christine Michael running through the No. 2 defense for a 43-yard score, Young replaced Harrell to the cheers of the Lambeau Field crowd. Young took advantage of big voids in the Seahawks’ defense for runs of 21 and 18 yards, with a dropped interception by Allen Bradford and a 16-yard bootleg to Andrew Quarless in between. Young capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Amosa. B.J. Coleman played three possessions in the fourth quarter. His second drive put the Packers in range of the end zone but Jake Stoneburner was stripped around the 10-yard line for a killer turnover. Coleman’s third possession started at the 6-yard line with 1:53 remaining but he failed to get a first down. Rodgers, who played 10 snaps against the Seahawks after 41 in a full two quarters at Cincinnati in the third preseason game last year, led the offense to a field goal with his only drive of the night, and the Packers settled for a 3-3 tie at halftime. After Seattle marched to an opening field goal after Russell Wilson beat Packers blitzes with completions of 17 and 27 yards, Rodgers answered. The big play was a 22-yard completion up the middle to Jermichael Finley. On third-and-6, Rodgers faced pressure up the middle and missed Finley for what could have been a touchdown. Mason Crosby hit a 38-yard field goal to tie the game. Harrell played the rest of the first half encompassing four series. The first series was derailed by holding on left tackle David Bakhtiari, the second ended in receiver Jarrett Boykin’s fumble, the third ended on a fourth-down touchdown pass to Finley that was overturned by replay and the fourth was a three-and-out punt. On the play to Finley, fourth-and-goal from the 2, Harrell tried to thread the ball into coverage, and a lunging Finley deflected the ball to himself but couldn’t control it when he hit the ground. Harrell was 5-for-12 for 47 yards for the half and 6-of-14 for 49 yards after a three-and-out to start the second half. He moved the offense to four first downs. Three of his incompletions were overthrows; four if you include the pass interference on a deep ball to James Jones that gave the Packers 25 yards. Young, on the other hand, played two series – a touchdown and three-and-out punt on a possession ruined by a bad shotgun snap from Patrick Lewis. He went 6-for-7 for 41 yards and a touchdown, plus 39 yards on two scrambles. His drives picked up five first downs.

last two for the night:
1) yahoo's shut down corner did 3 stories about the game and managed to NOT mention Vince even once. In case you were wondering who is objective/professional and who is not....
2) from totalpackers.com this little section to relish instead:
At quarterback, the Packers similarly wanted Graham Harrell to grab the backup job. He came in early in the 2nd quarter and performed his usual lackluster routine.
Here’s what we’re certain about with Harrell. He cannot throw deep. He’s not accurate. He probably can’t lead this team if Rodgers goes down. Harrell finished 6-for-13 for 49 yards. He also made a pitch in the 3rd that would have been a fumble, had Franklin not landed on it.
Let’s be honest. This guy is a nightmare.
Which brings us to the next guy — Vince Young.
Young hasn’t looked like anything special thus far, but on Friday night, Vince Young showed us what Vince Young can do. He’s not going to throw any pretty balls, but he can lead a team downfield.
Young was 6-for-7 for 41 yards, but he also scrambled for a team-leading 39 yards. Oh, and he also threw the Packers only touchdown — to undrafted rookie Jonathan Amosa on his first series.
Let’s teach this guy the offense and make him our backup, hey Mike?

aaron, you do remember that someone with last name Simms was sure to beat Vince out in a certain stuck-in-the-mud town and...failed miserably. Phils Simms is a mental midget. No integtiry that man. I still remember that they ran a play against Dallas in which Vince was looking the safety off. Even Fish said so after the game. And they repeated the same play a week later against the Giants. But Phil Simms was commenting during the Dalla game: 'ohh, Vince Young made a mistake and just got lucky - he was totally looking in the wrong direction'. Pathetic. Joan, I remember that game too. Seems like Phil Simms has a hidden agenda when it comes to VY.

I still cannot believe they only gave Vince TWO series.
*inwardly screaming*
I can only imagine how Vince and his close friends/family feel right now.

Seahawks vs. Packers Final Score: Vince Young Impresses in 17 - 10 Loss Backups Despite receiving his first extended playing time with the starting offense since last season, Harrell irrefutably failed the audition. Not only did he finish the game six for 13 for 49 yards, but he threw several ill-advised passes that were either batted down by a lineman or deflected by the defensive back. After three years in the system, the Packers can no longer justify Harrell's continued employment. The backup quarterback situation wasn't all gloom and doom, though. Vince Young cobbled together a pair of long scrambles and some short passing, ultimately culminating in the Packers' first touchdown. Young still lags behind the other passers in terms of understanding the offense. Yet the fact remains that after only two and a half weeks, Young's performance has exceeded that of Harrell and B.J. Coleman. Game Balls
Offense: Vince Young
Despite his inexperience in the Packers' offense, Young looked capable of keeping the Packers in a game or two if Rodgers were to go down for a short period. His mobility is still intact, and he'll usually make the right short to medium passes. www.acmepackingcompany.com/2013/8/23/4653242/seahawks-vs-packers-final-score-vince-young-impresses-in-17-10-loss#comments
